Big South India Tour
Day 1: EUROPE – BOMBAY
Flight to Bombay. Traditional Indian welcome and transfer to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: BOMBAY
Breakfast and free time in the city. In the afternoon guided tour of Bombay (Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Mount Malabar with the Jain-Temple etc.). Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 3: BOMBAY – COCHIN
Flight from Bombay to Cochin. In the afternoon guided tour of Cochin, "the Venice of the South" (Fort Cochin, Jews quarter Mattancherry, St. Francis Church, Vasco de Gama memorial etc.). Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 4: COCHIN
After breakfast we will continue the guided tour of Cochin (Palace of the Government, Museums). The afternoon is free at your disposal, we can organize if you wish a visit to a Kathakali dance school. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 5: COCHIN – PERIYAR (via Alleppey, Cottayam)
Transfer from Cochin to Periyar (190 km). Boot cruise (about 3h) between the Backwater canals from Alleppey to Cottayam, this is one of the best landscapes of India, more then 100 km with wild animals and tropical plants. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 6: PERIYAR
Breackfast and boot cruise on Periyar Lake, in the middle of a 700 km2 game reserve. In the afternoon excursion in the game reserve discovering the wild life living inside. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 7: PERIYAR – MADURAI
Transfer from Periyar to Madurai (150 km), the centre of the Dravidian culture. Guided tour of Madurai and excursion to the Meenakshi Temple. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 8: MADURAI – TRICHY (via Tanjore)
Bus transfer from Madurai to Trichy (130 km). Stop in Tanjore where we will visit the Brihadeswara Temple, this is a highlight of the architecture of Chola dynasty. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 9: TRICHY – MADRAS
Guided tour of Trichy (Srirangam Temples, Jambukeshwara Temple, Pallava Temple etc.). In afternoon flight from Trichy to Madras. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 10: MADRAS (Excursion to Kanchipuram)
Excursion from Madras to Kanchipuram (150 km), the "Golden City". This is one of the seven holy city of the Hindu. In the afternoon guided tour of Madras (Fort St. George, St. Mary's Church, National Gallery etc.). Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 11: MADRAS (Excursion to Mahabalipuram)
Transfer from Madras to Mahabalipuram (140 km), famous for its monolithic sculptures, that bring you back to the Dravidian architecture. If you wish you can take a bath in the Bay of Bengal. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 12: MADRAS – BANGALORE – HASSAN (via Sravanabelgola)
Flight from Madras to Bangalore and Bus transfer to Hassan (160 km). Stop in Sravanabelgola to see the monolithic statue of Gomateswana (about 18m high). Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 13: HASSAN – MYSORE (via Belur, Halebid)
Morning transfer from Hassan to Mysore (240 km). Stop in Belur (Kesava Temple in Hoysala styl) and Halebid (Vishnu and Shiva Temple). In the afternoon guided tour of Mysore (Maharajah Palace, St. Philomena Chatedral, Devaraja Bazar, Chamundi-Hill with Temple and Big Nandi etc.). Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 14: MYSORE – BANGALORE (via Somnathpur, Srirangapatnam)
Bus Transfer (160 km) from Mysore to Bangalore with Stops in Somnathpur and Srirangapatnam. The Hoysala Temple in Somnathpur and the Summer Palace and the Sultan Tipu Memorial in Srirangapatnam are the most important attractions of these places. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 15: BANGALORE – BOMBAY
Guided tour of Bangalore, the most modern city of India (Tipu's Fort, Nandi Temple, Botanic Garden etc.). In the afternoon flight from Bangalore to Bombay. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 16: BOMBAY
This day is at your disposal in Bombay for shopping, sightseeing etc. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 17: BOMBAY – EUROPE
Flight from Bombay to Europe.
